Fashion and the fight-against-Cancer will go hand in hand this week in what is set to be Samoas’ first ever Fashion Expo. The ‘Life-Con Explosion’ event will bring together the nations love of fashion for a good cause.

Founder and Director of the Life-Con initiative Kevin Schuster of Events, Marketing and Distribution (EMD) says the major event, which will be held at Tatte Conference Centre, Sogi and Taumeasina Island Resort from June 1-3, has been four years in the making.

“LIFE-Con has been in the pipeline since 2012,” he says. It was inspired by the need to assist support small businesses from a marketing perspective because it is a gap in the private sector in Samoa that needed attention.

“There was also a need to showcase and highlight the massive talent and creativity in the Samoa fashion industry with our local fashion house and labels especially Hair and Make up artists and Multi-media individuals and companies.”

Kevin says the LIFE-Con’s ‘Think Pink’ intiative is a partnership between his company EMD and the Samoa Cancer society – an intiative which honours former Miss Samoa and Miss South Pacific Manamea Schwalger who is currently battling breast cancer and all breast cancer survivors. All proceeds from the event will go to the Samoa Cancer Society.

“The focus of Think Pink is ‘Beyond Treatment …calls for our support’. We need to encourage the access of treatment in Samoa so the obstacles of overseas treatment can be reduced. These obstacles affect not only the patient but their whole family and country.

“LIFE-Con has partnered with the Samoa Cancer Society to advocate for this stand in honour of Manamea so that better access to treatment becomes a national priority.”

Over 30 small businesses in Samoa across the fashion, beauty and multimedia sectors will come together and showcase their products and services over the exciting three day event.

Visitors can expect plenty of significant discounts on clothing items, fashion shows and displays, demonstrations and the opportunity to see 11 former Miss Samoa’s under one roof. But Kevin doesn’t want to give too much away.

“The whole night will be a surprise simply because the LIFE-Con Premium Showcase at Taumeasina Island Resort is the first of its kind and therefore we don’t know what to expect but we do know it will be an experience. LIFE-Con is a motivational hub and the objective is to motivate and inspire people. We are selling an ‘experience.’

“It is about embracing the future of small businesses in Samoa by also honoring the past through our tribute and recognition of the Iconic Women of Fashion who have empowered our people – their confidence and role in reaffirming our Samoan culture and identity through their expressions styles and presentation needs to be celebrated.”
