It’s that time again where Pasifika Fashion rules Australian runways. The annual Pacific International Runway kicks off its glitz and glam evening tomorrow night at the Star Event Centre in Sydney’s CBD.
Staying true to it’s name, Pacific International Runway aims to launch Pacific designers into the world’s fashion industry limelight and has exceeded their objectives in the last year having dressed some of the Disney ‘Moana’ cast at the World Premiere in Los Angeles and helping two newcomer Pacific designers from last year’s runway, showcase their collections at the prestigious New York Fashion Week this year.
The event steps up it’s game each year and PIR executive & project manager Maisyann Peni says this year is no different.
“We have six new designers this year. Kovie Richardson, Tauariki Wear, Exclusive By Off Da Rock, FJK, Vina Couture and Pele Creations,” she says. “Our plans this year is to hopefully get our designers into the European market and getting into the mainstream and also into distribution stores.”
Director Failepou Peni says the opportunities for designers that can come from the runway show are unlimited.
“It’s not just a one night event. It’s about giving opportunities to our designers to be explored and pushing our boundaries in being acknowledged that we, from the Pacific, are more than capable of delivering to a grand scale if not better.”
