‘Money is my motivation…I just want to help my parents’
Australia’s next biggest Tennis star SUGA Destanee Aiava says she has no shame in admitting what really motivates her to succeed in Tennis.
The world number #147 ranked teenager told The Canberra Times this week that she is the only provider for her family and admits she only plays for the money.
“I was one of those kids where our house was like a cabin, so I’m kind of used to that poor lifestyle and I just want that lavish lifestyle,” Aiava said.
“Money is the motivation. Obviously everyone wants a better lifestyle for their future and money definitely helps that a lot.
“I can’t lie anymore. I’m done with that whole ‘honesty is the best policy.’ It’s the light at the end of the tunnel and I just want it – as soon as I have enough money I’ll stop playing.”
Aiava qualified for her first major Grand Slam this year, The Australian Open, in which she walked away with a nice 50,000.00 prize.
Another 60k prizemoney could be awarded to her this weekend should she win the Canberra International Final against Olivia Rogowska.
“I’m turning 18 next year and I want to get my own apartment so I can move out but my parents are separated and I want to buy both of them a house as well. They’ve been a huge help in my career and I wouldn’t be here without them, so I want to give back to them as much as possible.”
Aiava is not the only top Tennis star to admit money is the appealing factor. Fellow Aussie Bernard Tomic also admitted the same thing.
We think good on her! Get that money SUGA!
