First Pacific ‘Plus-Size’ pageant to launch in Sydney this year
The first ever Pacific ‘plus size’ pageant will take place in Sydney, Australia in September this year.
The director of the inaugural Miss South Pacific Plus Pageant, businesswoman and fashion designer Victoria Malaga, 28 says that the occasion will mark a celebration of fuller figured women, who she says have long felt ‘left out’ of the traditional pageant scene.
“I noticed there was really nothing out there for plus size women specifically,” she says.
“I wanted to create a new platform for plus size women but also to go beyond the beauty of women. Part of this journey is also setting up workshops in the lead up to the final night, that focus on empowering and inspiring our women and these include business workshops and bringing in guest speakers with various accomplishments.”
The call out for pageant participants was advertised earlier this year and Victoria was pleasantly surprised at the large and enthusiastic response.
“We had girls from all Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand and as far as the U.S expressing their interest.”
With the finalists selected, an official launch of the pageant will happen tomorrow night at the Campbelltown Civic Centre, Campbelltown where Victoria will speak in more detail about the pageant’s program and it’s mission.
