Samoa Airways are seeking proposals from fashion designers to design the official Samoa Airways Uniform.  The airline is scheduled to begin flights in November.

Samoa Airways Marketing and Communications Manager Dwayne Bentley says that this will be a wonderful opportunity for a lucky designer.

“In terms of what we’re after, I can generally say that as Samoa’s new international airline, we’re looking for a design that best captures the essence of Samoa Airways – warm Samoan hospitality as well as beautiful Samoa.

“It’s important that the uniform as a whole is professional, versatile, functional, comfortable, fashionable and reflects a progressive Samoa.  Our crew perform a range of duties and services in different environments and therefore it has to be practical.

“Having said that, we’re mindful that there is an opportunity to make a statement and showcase where Samoa is at in terms of fashion design.”

He acknowledges the success and rise of Samoan fashion particularly over the last few years.

“I’m not an expert on fashion but what I can say is that Samoan fashion has evolved very nicely and is very highly regarded.”

One designer who wants to remain anonymous says this is by far her most challenging task yet.

“I’m used to designing outfits for evenings and weddings but to design something that really represents Samoa means I have to ponder on it for a bit.

“I want to create something simple and easy for a flight attendant to move around in but at the same time, something that passengers, especially international passengers can look at and say ‘wow.’”

The Prime Minister Tuila’epa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi said Samoa Airways would start with one aircraft (737) to fly from Samoa to Auckland, Brisbane and Sydney.
